Collaborating online: launch of Dumfries and Galloway’s tourism industry website

Destination Dumfries & Galloway (DD&G), the region’s industry led tourism organisation, recently launched a new website for the region’s tourism businesses: www.dgtourism4business.co.uk

An online hub for Dumfries and Galloway’s tourism industry, the website is designed to provide information, support, news, events and online networking for tourism businesses.

Inga McVicar, Project Manager of DD&G (services supplied by McVicar Walden) said:

“A core part of DD&G’s work is to develop, promote and represent the region’s tourism industry. With such a large region, and with such a large tourism industry made up of so many different tourism businesses, it was crucial that we create a central point online. As well as attending the events and conferences DD&G organises, and calling or emailing myself direct, businesses can now feed into DD&G as and when they would like through the website. Most importantly, the networking area of www.dgtourism4business.co.uk is a way for individual businesses to meet and potentially collaborate with other businesses in the region. And it’s completely free for tourism businesses based in Dumfries and Galloway.”

Wilma Finlay, Chair of DD&G and Managing Director of the Cream o’ Galloway said:

“The Board of DD&G urges every tourism business in the region to make use of their new website. As the networking section of the website is only visible to those registered, we, as an industry, can have open and honest discussion about the issues and ideas important to our businesses. In order to truly represent our region’s tourism industry, DD&G needs to gather and take forward the views and opinions of the entire industry – but we can only do so if everyone makes use of the website to talk to us, as well as accessing information that could help them to develop their own business. www.dgtourism4business.co.uk is just one of the tools that our region can use to develop our tourism industry, but it’s one of the few that can bring our industry into one place, 24 hours a day to work together.”

Tourism businesses based in Dumfries and Galloway, and partners of DD&G, can register for free on the new tourism industry website www.dgtourism4business.co.uk. DD&G has also worked with VisitScotland and Dumfries & Galloway Council on the first phase of the redeveloped regional visitor facing website, www.visitdumfriesandgalloway.co.uk, which went live in September.

Cllr Roger Grant, Chair of the Council’s Planning, Housing and Environment Services Committee said

“This is a great way for the local tourism sector to keep in contact with each other and increase business opportunities.  There are some fantastic attractions and events in our region, but it can be difficult to discover what is happening and where.  I am hoping the website solves this issue through its updateable events section, and encourages the tourism sector to share information and collectively boost the local economy.”
