Projects
Creating an industry facing website
This site has been designed to be a one stop shop for all businesses that have a stake in the tourism industry. With information on training, marketing, research and what is on in the region, as well as space to meet and talk to other tourism related businesses in the region, we hope it will help support you and your business. If there is something missing, please contact us and let us know.
Delivering events for industry
In the past year, DD&G have delivered two conferences (one in conjunction with VisitScotland), six roadshows and facilitated a number of group meetings with the region's tourism industry. This is an important part of what we do, bringing the region's tourism industry together to share ideas, collaborate and learn from each other. Our next conference will be taking place in November.
Develop a new and improved regional consumer website
DD&G is the first DDO (Destination Development Organisation) to agree a mandate with VisitScotland – this mandate agrees that VisitScotland will work in partnership with DD&G both in renewing/refreshing our region's visitor facing website (visitdumfriesandgalloway.co.uk), and in future development of and content for the website.
As a result, Dumfries and Galloway is the first region in Scotland to have a renewed and refreshed visitor website. The first phase of the website will be live August/September 2011, second phase February/March 2012.
Marketing campaigns to promote the region
DD&G works in collaboration with VisitScotland, Dumfries & Galloway Council and other partners on marketing of our region to visitors.
That includes collecting ideas from industry and feeding them into ideas for VisitScotland campaigns; connecting partner campaigns to regional marketing to ensure consistency and avoidance of duplication; and creating our own marketing campaigns.
Research
We have undertaken some key targeted research in order to inform the activities of DD&G, including an audit of businesses and a consumer research project. More details can be found here.
Training and Workshops
DD&G coordinates training and workshops for our region's tourism businesses. That includes providing information and feedback to partners, other organisations and private training companies about how to tailor training for tourism businesses (for example – don't hold training during the busy summer months). We also encourage businesses to take part in training, and will shortly be running our own training sessions.
Tourism is Everyone's Business!
As well as encouraging more tourism businesses to get involved in region-wide efforts to improve our tourism industry and visitor numbers, DD&G is also an ambassador for the industry.
We encourage wider community involvement through undertaking presentations to community groups; entice more people to work in tourism through taking part in educational training programmes; and through inviting community action groups to our events.
DD&G will be shortly announcing a community focused 'Tourism is Everyone's Business' campaign.
Strategy
DD&G was a key partner in the creation of the Dumfries & Galloway Regional Tourism Strategy (make the Dumfries & Galloway Regional Tourism Strategy a link to the Dumfries & Galloway Regional Tourism Strategy page). We're also now buying playing our role to deliver the actions of this strategy.
DD&G is also in the process of working on a Product Development Strategy for the region – which will be informed by the Visitor Research (link Visitor Research to the DD&G Research page) we're currently undertaking.
A sustainable voice for Industry
DD&G is funded by LEADER, Dumfries & Galloway Council, Scottish Natural Heritage and through private sector contributions.
Our aim is to represent, promote and develop Dumfries and Galloway's tourism industry.
We have achieved a unique tripartite partnership with Dumfries & Galloway Council and VisitScotland – and are the first Destination Development Organisation in Scotland to have reached a mandate with VisitScotland to work together on our regional consumer website.
The voluntary Board of DD&G is working hard to ensure that DD&G is a sustainable organisation, building on the successes we have achieved to date, while recognising that there is a lot more to be achieved.
