Scottish Tourism Careers Festival
Each year, during Scottish Tourism Week, the industry comes together to discuss the topical issues of the day, showcase its successes and plan for the future. In 2011, Springboard Scotland introduced a week-long celebration of tourism careers in order to compliment and extend the reach of Tourism Week. Such was the success of these activities during Careers Week that Springboard is now co-ordinating a month-long Tourism Careers Festival to run throughout March 2012.
Not only do we wish to celebrate the amazing variety of careers on offer within our vibrant industry but also to reach out to schools, students, job seekers, parents, careers advisors and the community at large to invite them to engage with the industry throughout this event and beyond.
The Careers Festival programme will work in harmony with Scottish Tourism Week, which this year runs between the 6 & 12th March, and will provide the essential link between the industry and potential recruits, key influencers and the wider community. All activities planned are designed to improve the appeal, widen access and attract new talent into the industry.
Why have it?
The Festival provides a powerful opportunity to address two big industry issues:
- Attracting enough of the right people into the industry, and
- Changing the public's perceptions of the industry through hands-on taster experiences
Not only do we need to consolidate the industry's pivotal position in the eyes of national decision makers but we must also raise our profile among our fellow-citizens. It is vital that communities large and small recognise the strategic importance of tourism and hospitality to our country's economic and social well being.
What does the Festival involve?
As the industry we need to open our doors to the local community and invite them to come and see at first hand what we do. We know we work in a fun, vibrant and fast moving industry. The Careers Festival is the industry's chance to share this excitement and vision with its key target audiences in working together to deliver a nationwide celebration.
Throughout March organisations and businesses will be offering show rounds, open days, taster events, job shadowing, careers exhibitions and all manner of work experience opportunities. This is your opportunity to engage with your local community!
When is it?
1 - 31st March 2012
Who is it for?
The Festival aims to grab the attention of five key audiences:
- Potential recruits of all ages
- Influencers – parents, teachers, Job Centre Plus staff, Careers Advisors
